Meet Madefine!
If you were a Super Hero Toe, what would your super power be? The ability to turn anything glittery with my touch, think King Midas, but more like Queen Madefine
Guilty Pleasure? Corndogs
Who would you invite to be an honorary Toe (living or dead)? Beyoncé, duh.
Favorite Toe Moment?
2014 was my first year as a Camel Toe, and I was so excited to be marching in Muses, a parade I had watched as a little girl and never imagined I would be in one day. Around the end of January, I had to fly to California to take care of my dad, who passed a week before the parade. I kept in touch with the Toes and let them know that I was still practicing the routines on my own and was going to do my damnedest to make it to Muses, because if anything could make me smile in this horrible period of my life, it was dressing up in a pink glittery spy costume and dancing my ass off for 7 miles down St. Charles with my ladies. I flew into NOLA the night before Muses, got my costume that morning, and showed up at Dos Jefes ready to do the damn thing. After everyone was done showering me with hugs and kisses, a few of the Toes pulled me aside and said they had something special for me. I thought it was going to be a special hat or something, but to my complete surprise, they turned around the lead flag that they carry at the very front of our procession to reveal the other side with the words “Honorary Camelback 2015 Richard White” with a sequin-outlined photo of my smiling dad.”Don’t cry!” they exclaimed which made me laugh, and then cry even harder, because I was wearing a black glitter eye mask I had just finished perfecting. Before joining, I only knew three Camel Toes, and not even that well, and I am still in awe as to how this group of women who I had just met knew how special my dad was. That night, my dad and I marched those 7 miles down St. Charles together, and I am forever grateful to all my Toes for that. Now that flag hangs in my room, a daily reminder of the love and compassion that both he and my ladies have for me.
What is your idea of perfect happiness? Watching the sunset in Havana with a cold beer, a mango, and friends.
What is your "Toe" Motto? DON’T TRY TO MARCH AND GET ON A PLANE. You won’t make it.
